Insight: Art Teaching the Faith

The Foundation has launched a new segment on our website entitled "Insight: Art Teaching the Faith." This section will include brief articles and essays on recent works of Christian art which reveal how visual art appeals to and educates the Christian imagination and intellect. We hope you will find that these essays deepen your appreciation for the connection between art, catechesis, and evangelization.

The first study will feature Jed Gibbons' illuminated miniature Maria Mater Misericordiae, pictured to the left.

The Holy Father Speaks

The Holy Father Speaks

"All the great works of art," said Pope Benedict XVI in a recent question and answer session, "[are] a luminous sign of God and therefore truly a manifestation, an epiphany of God."

In Pope Benedict XVI, we are blessed with a Holy Father with a deep appreciation and love for the arts and their role in Christian life. Inspired by his leadership, the Foundation has created a new resource on our website called The Holy Father Speaks. Here, you will find quotes and articles from both the current and past pontiffs highlighting the important relationship between art and the faith.

News in the Arts

The European University of Rome offers a master's program in Architecture, Sacred Art and Liturgy in response to the crisis of art in our day. "Today more than ever, the Church needs to proclaim to the world the beauty of God that shines in the works of art that the faith has generated," said Father Uwe Lang, scientific director of the program.
